Transcending borders and Traversing boundaries- World Read-Aloud Day, Wednesday 3rd Feb 2021- collaborative session between Beaconhouse Newlands School Multan, Pakistan & Pathways School Noida.
World Read Aloud Day was celebrated in a unique manner this year- Students of Grade 4 D got an opportunity to have an interactive Read-Aloud session with grade 4 of Beaconhouse Newlands school in Multan, Pakistan. Ms. Natasha Zafar, the Homeroom tutor from the guest school and Ms. Akanksha Bhanot, form Tutor grade 4D facilitated the session. We had a brief introduction session and children from both sides of the border realized that they all love playing Fortnight!
Aamna ,a student from Ms. Zafar’s class read aloud the book- This is the Rope by Jacqueline Woodson- A Brooklyn girl telling the story of her grandmother, mother and a rope that forms a bond across three generations. A beautiful and sublime story of a family and their journey up north during the Great Migration in the 1960s, it resonated with our young readers as they could empathize with the symbolic importance of the rope in the lives of this family across generations.
The students from the guest school gave a glimpse of what they learnt during their previous unit on Migration- they shared their learning and understanding with our students.
This session provided a great opportunity to children on both sides to interact with each other- the excitement was at its zenith! The story was enjoyed by everyone and the interactive exchange on the unit of migration helped further the children’s understanding of the unit.
