Every threat presents the scope for a lot of opportunities.
When the lockdown was inflicted, a sense of uncertainty crept into our lives. The uncertainty of the situation, the uncertainty of availability of basic needs, and the uncertainty of stability. Initially, it did cause a level of anxiety and panic as we had to make huge compromises, like being locked inside and not meeting anyone. We, as fitness enthusiasts, found the prospect of being inside for an unknown period of time quite frightening, as we were used to going outside to run, walk and swim.
Our routine always consisted of some form of outdoor physical exercises. However, by tweaking our already set schedule we had the best time of our lives indoors. Most importantly, we switched from outdoor activities to a rigorous indoor regime, for which we followed a self-curated Yoga plan to stay engaged and balanced during the lockdown.
How did you balance mental and physical health at home, during the pandemic?
We have taken the 325 Days of Fitness Challenge which motivates us to be consistent with exercise and hugely contributes to our physical and mental well-being. Additionally, to lighten our minds and engage ourselves at home we played carrom, organized game nights and movie nights and cooked together. This strengthened our bond and distracted us from the pandemics fear, thus making the anxiety and panic fade away. These challenges have not only helped us maintain our fitness but also encouraged us to stay determined and focused.
The lockdown resulted in a more strengthened and conditioned mind along with higher EQ and the newfound ability to adapt. We have now truly experienced VUCA World (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity) in our lives.
How have you bonded despite the generation gap?
People tend to socialize with others belonging to the same age cohort. Interaction and understanding are said to be almost impossible between people from different eras due to the so-called generation gap. However, we are firm believers that human’s bond over interests and personality and not their age. As my father says, we all are spiritual beings on a human journey, our souls are eternal and have no age. Does the age of our human body matter? The generation gap is all in our minds
How have your interests/traits helped strengthen your relationship? And discard the generation gap?
Our similar interests and personality traits strengthen our relationship as we are able to understand each other’s perspective. It has helped in discarding the generation gap as we ensure that our discussions are not focused on aspects of our lives, with my father talking about office and me talking about school, but they are centered around general topics of our interest. Other than that, we understand and adapt to each other’s perspectives according to the situation, which ultimately has helped us learn more about the thought process of different generations.
